An extensively decayed Grade II Listed Seventeenth Century former Coaching Inn, no internal finishes survived and the entire rear wall had collapsed with little record of it’s original form. Assisted by Local Authority and English Heritage funding, the building was carefully repaired, dormer windows and architectural detail reinstated and the rear wall rebuilt in a sympathetic manner, but clearly a new layer rather than conjectural restoration.

Rebuilt with traditional oak frame repairs and lime mortars, the project had to adhere to a tight budget yet managed to incorporate environmental benefits such as sheepswool insulation throughout.
